Lincoln based Burton & Dyson wins award for community work

Gainsborough-based law firm Burton & Dyson is celebrating after winning a top regional award for its involvement in the local community.

The practice won the 'Outstanding Contribution to the Community' accolade at the first ever Gainsborough Business Awards, which took place at Gainsborough Golf Club on September 9th.

The firm, which recently celebrated its 150th anniversary, prides itself on its community work and encourages staff to play an active role in local charities and organisations.

Judges at the awards were impressed with the many different ways in which Burton & Dyson engages with its local community. These include:

Supporting ProHelp, which offers professional assistance to the voluntary sector on a 'pro bono', or voluntary, basis.

Involvement with local charities, for which several members of staff are either clerks or treasurers, including the Joshua Tyler Charity, Gainsborough Educational Charity, Lincolnshire Employment Accommodation Project, Gainsborough Development Trust and Gainsborough Homestart.

Partner Lisa Whitelam being president of the Gainsborough Area Council for Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Partner Steven Hardy being a director and secretary of Gainsborough House community centre.

Involvement in West Lindsey Citizens Advice Bureau, with senior partner Philip Westcott being honorary solicitor and Peter Bishop, head of Burton and Dyson's personal injury department, having been a director for many years.

Staff being involved with local parish councils, either as members in their own right or as 'honorary' legal advisers. Burton & Dyson also advises and supports Gainsborough Town Council.

Support and sponsorship of local cricket, with members of staff also involved in coaching, as well as rugby and women's hockey.

Senior partner Philip Westcott said: "This is a wonderful achievement for Burton & Dyson, which was only made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team.

"We have always encouraged staff members to get involved in the local community, so to have everyone's hard work recognised in this way is fantastic."
