Driving skills with a difference have resulted in two Leicester
golfers winning a place in this week's UK Final of the world's
largest amateur golf tournament, which takes place at the home of
golf - St Andrews in Scotland.
Simon Hill, a member of Cosby Golf Club, and Barry Gisborne, who
plays at Kibworth Golf Club, will be travelling up to Scotland on
Wednesday to take part in the final of the MercedesTrophy
competition which is organised by the manufacturer for its
customers.
The duo are customers of Mercedes-Benz of Leicester and will be
representing the St George's Way retailer's parent company,
Inchcape Mercedes-Benz, in the final alongside a customer from the
group's Warrington site. The Inchcape team has been selected from
two previous rounds of competition at Little Aston Golf Club in
Birmingham and a MercedesTrophy regional final staged at Burhill
Golf Club in Surrey.
Later this week, Simon and Barry will be pitching their golfing
skills against eight other threesomes made up of Mercedes-Benz
retail and corporate customers from across the country. They will
be contesting the national team title and the chance to represent
the UK in the World Final in Germany next September.
During their stay north of the border at the prestigious
Fairmont Resort, the Inchcape Mercedes-Benz team will compete over
36 holes on the Kingsbarns and Castle courses. They will also
attend an evening function at the Old Course Hotel overlooking the
17th fairway of the historic St Andrew's course and enjoy a gala
dinner at Glamis Castle.
"The MercedesTrophy is a prestigious golf tournament played by
Mercedes-Benz drivers around the world and it is fantastic that our
retail outlet is being represented by not one, but two players in
the UK Final of the competition," said Adrian Beaumont,
Mercedes-Benz of Leicester's General Manager. "Simon and Barry have
shown their golfing talents in previous rounds so we hope their
form will continue in Scotland and we wish them both the very best
of luck."
