Nottingham based Perfect Motion is celebrating after receiving
three gongs at the Scottish Event Awards last week. The awards were
received in recognition of the growing success of freshnlo Pedal
for Scotland, a cycling event the Sports Marketing Agency delivers
in partnership with Pennine Events for Cycling Scotland.
The event, which took place at the weekend (Sunday 12 September)
was awarded Best Sports Event, Best Event in an Outdoor Space and
Event Management Grand Prix (overall Award for best event of the
night) at the awards ceremony on Thursday 9 September.
Chris Simon, Director of Perfect Motion commented: "Winning
these three awards is a real achievement for everyone involved in
the organisation of Pedal for Scotland. It is really rewarding for
our efforts to be recognised, as a result of the culmination of
months of hard work put in to the event each and every year by the
whole Pedal for Scotland team."
And the celebrations didn't stop there as this year's Pedal for
Scotland, which took place two days later, attracted a record
number of cyclists, with a massive 9000 Scots getting on their
bikes - over 2000 more than in 2009.
Chris continued: "This year's event has once again been a great
success, with entry numbers increasing by approximately 30%. The
day went really smoothly, which is down to the whole team behind
it. As the biggest cycling event in Scotland, it really does take a
lot of planning, but we all love working on it, and we are already
looking forward to the challenge of organising next year's
event."
Over 8,000 cyclists took on the Challenge ride, beginning in
Glasgow Green and ending in Victoria Park in Edinburgh, a total of
51 miles. An additional 700 more serious cyclists completed the 100
mile timed Sportive ride through the Southern Uplands; and around
400 parents and children took part in the family ride at Glasgow
Green.
Round the World cyclist Mark Beaumont, cycling legend Graeme
O'Bree, 'How Clean is Your house?' star Aggie MacKenzie, Forth
One's Grant Stott and Ian Waugh and BBC's Kaye Adams joined in the
celebrations by getting in the saddle and taking part in Scotland's
biggest bike ride.
Event Organiser, Andrew Pankhurst of Cycling Scotland, said, "We
are delighted that the event has attracted record numbers yet again
this year and are thrilled by the three Awards we picked up at the
Scottish Event Awards.
"We decided to introduce an additional two rides this year to
ensure all ages and abilities were catered for, and judging by the
numbers that attended today, the rides were well received.
"The fact that over 9,000 people made it along to the start line
at Glasgow Green on a Sunday morning shows that cycling is becoming
more and more popular as an activity that the whole family can get
involved in. We hope that those who took part today consider taking
their bikes out more often and using their cars a bit less often,
especially for short journeys."
