Leading UK property consultant GVA Grimley has been appointed to
dispose of Penhale Training Camp - a former anti-aircraft training
base - by Defence Estates. The 40 acre (16ha) camp will be put up
for public auction on Tuesday 21st September with a guide price of
offers in excess of £750,000.
Penhale Training Camp is located at Penhale Sands, immediately
to the west of Holywell Bay, on the north Cornwall coast. The wider
Ministry of Defence (MOD) base and training area - of which the
disposal site forms part - occupies a total of 988 acres (400
hectares).
Penhale Training Camp comprises 650 bed spaces in numerous
single storey buildings. Until recently it was used by small groups
of regular units from the Armed Forces, Territorial Army and Cadets
to undertake various training activities, including leadership
training and outdoor pursuits.
Penhale Training Camp is not currently allocated for development
in the Carrick District Local Plan. Located in an area renowned for
its natural beauty with high sand dunes, the site has special
scientific, archaeological and conservation interest. However, the
Training Camp comprises previously developed land and is considered
suitable for some redevelopment, subject to planning approval and
user restrictions.
Andrew Moss, director within GVA Grimley's National Markets
division said: "The sale of Penhale Training Camp presents a truly
unique opportunity to acquire a 40 acre site with existing mixed
accommodation and potential for development, in an area of
outstanding natural beauty on the North Cornwall coastline.
Significant interest has already been received through ourselves
and the appointed auctioneers."
Andrew Moss, who is based in GVA Grimley's Birmingham office, is
the director responsible for coordinating all of the MOD's open
market disposals throughout England and Wales. To ensure full
market exposure for the sale of Penhale Training Camp, London based
auctioneers Andrews and Robertson have been appointed as
auctioneers/sub agents. The public auction will take place at
The Grand Connaught Rooms, Great Queen Street, London, WC2B
5DA.
