Young businessman Jamie Gudgeon went back to the classroom to
inspire students to display the same entrepreneurial flare that
allowed him to set up his own company.
Jamie, of Dresden, Stoke on Trent, launched Jamiedia shortly
after leaving university at the age of 22. The company designs
websites for organisations across the country and has four members
of staff.
He has quickly built up an impressive portfolio of work for
clients including the Hanley Economic Building Society,
Staffordshire University and Staffordshire County Council.
Jamie said: "I am originally from Lancaster but I settled
in North Staffordshire after studying at Staffordshire University
and starting the business".
"It was great to be asked back to give a talk to the current
computing course students. The idea was to make them think
about starting their own business and I had some great feedback on
the day."
Jamie is also helping job seekers to think about setting up
their own businesses.
He took part in the City Breaks project run by the North
Staffordshire Chamber of commerce and Industry.
"The idea is to support people who decide to stop claiming
Jobseekers Allowance to start their own business," explained Jamie.
"There are grants available and support from established
businesses."
"I helped by mentoring a small group of jobseekers which was
very rewarding."
"I have continued to work with two of the fledgling businesses
and it is great to see them thrive."
Adrian Gilling of the newly formed Ultimate Business Solutions
explained how Jamie gave him the boost to get his own website up
and running.
"I really learnt a lot from the session. Jamie pointed me in the
right direction and I'm much more aware of how a website can
benefit my business in the long run," said Adrian.
