Nottingham-based bespoke and composite cable and connectors supplier, Webro, is helping the Confederation of Aerial Industries (CAI) to roll-out specialised connectorisation techniques in order to enhance the UK's future cable installations.

The introduction of widespread and comprehensive connectorisation skills is expected to significantly reduce the number of systems failures in cable installations throughout the country, of which 30 per cent are accounted for by poorly fitted or inappropriate connectors.

Roger Webster, managing director of Webro, commented: "We are very pleased to work alongside the CAI to provide this service to cable professionals, as there was no specialised training in connectorisation previously available.

"It is vital that connectors are installed to the highest possible standards, to minimise the volume of service call-outs and system down time, which can be particularly disruptive and sometimes dangerous in public places."

Earlier in the year, Webro trained CAI tutors at its headquarters in best practice connector application and selection, so that this knowledge could be passed on to trainee installers on either the Practical Application of Integrated Reception Systems (IRS) course or the Basic TV Aerial and Satellite Installer course.

Kevin Dawson, assessment and training executive at CAI, added: "We are committed to raising standards within the industry and ensuring that our members have access to specialised training is integral to that. We are delighted to work with Webro to build on our existing offering, so that our members have access to the some of the most comprehensive cables and connectors training available in the world."

The CAI is the recognised body for the aerial and satellite industry and has estimated that 250 of its students will go on to receive the training in 2011, which involves elements on the manufacture process, correct preparation methods, tooling and techniques to achieve the highest standards of cable installation.

Webro is the only organisation officially qualified to offer connectorisation training as certified by Europe's leading connector manufacturer, Denmark-based Corning Cabelcon.

Webro has a 30-year legacy in the coaxial, telecom, security and fibre optic industries, and also supplies coaxial cables to the top five UK TV and satellite distributors. Webro's high quality products and services have enabled it to sell enough coaxial cable to stretch around the world.
