Stoke City fans who travel to every away game this season will
clock up over 3,500 miles, prompting one of the club's star players
to encourage them to stay safe as the bad weather sets in.
German international Robert Huth is urging fans to stay safe in
the snow ahead of the 100-mile round trip to Wigan on Saturday by
taking advantage of the club's new partnership with one of the UK's
leading breakdown providers, RAC.
Ardent fans will clock-up a total of 3,544 miles following the
Potters' away games this season, with five trips to the Capital for
games at Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham
United.
The longest journey is to Newcastle United which is 386 miles in
total, closely followed by Sunderland at 370 miles.
The affiliation between Stoke City FC Insurance and RAC sees
fans of the club receiving a 20 per cent discount off the usual
price for a year's breakdown cover with RAC* plus a £20
voucher to spend at the club shop when they join online.
Huth said: "Our supporters are the best in the country and play
a really important part in helping us, especially at the away games
and all the players think they are fantastic for making such long
journeys especially to places like London and the North East.
"With all the travelling involved, it's important supporters
make sure they are safe and are prepared, so the club's partnership
with RAC breakdown comes at really important time as the snow
begins to fall and the bad weather sets in.
"The added bonus of the breakdown cover is that fans get a 20
per cent discount and a £20 voucher to spend at the club shop
too - just in time for Christmas!"
Managing Director of Nowell and Richards Insurance Services,
Richard Nowell, said: "The last few winters have been particularly
harsh weather-wise so our partnership with RAC provides the
die-hard Potters supporters who travel all over the country
following the team peace of mind.
"The snow we are experiencing at the moment means the trip to
Wigan at the weekend could be treacherous but RAC cover will
reassure people heading up the M6."
RAC offers motorists the following advice when driving in
hazardous conditions:
• Check local weather and traffic conditions before setting
off and if you can avoid the trip do so
• Give yourself extra time and stick to the main roads
where possible as they're the most likely to have been treated
• If you're travelling any distance, let someone know where
you're going and when you expect to arrive
• Make sure your car windows and lights are clear from ice
and snow
• Take extra clothing in the car, food and drink, scraper
and de-icer, a charged up mobile phone, torch and potentially a
shovel
• Drive only as fast as the conditions allow and remember
stopping distances are longer in ice and snow
• Black ice can just appear to be wet patches on the road
surface and tends to form on bridges and overpasses where the cold
air can pass above and beneath the road surface
• If the noise from your tyres on the road suddenly becomes
quiet, it may well be you are driving on ice
• Gentle manoeuvres are key to safe driving in ice and snow
- use your accelerator, brakes, steering and clutch as gently as
possible
• If you're unfortunate enough to skid, steer into the skid
and avoid the temptation to slam on the brakes
*The 20% saving is based upon standard RAC prices, e.g. full
price single person Roadside and Recovery is £8.35 when paid
monthly
