Schoolchildren from Huntingdon Primary School in St Ann's,
Nottingham have had their prize-winning artwork displayed at the
entrance to the Balisier Court construction site to help warn of
the dangers of playing on or near building sites during the
Christmas holiday.
In a Christmas-themed unveiling, the winning poster was erected
onto site hoardings with the help of Gary Mugglestone, site
manager, Loughborough-based contractor and developer William Davis
Ltd and Richard Renwick, chief executive of TunTum Housing
Association. Designed by Cagla Dursun (9), the poster depicts the
most common hazards presented by construction sites and was
selected after William Davis launched a competition at the school
in a special Health and Safety assembly.
Becky Hyder, assistant school leader, Huntingdon Primary School
said: "We received a superb number of entries from the children for
the Health and Safety poster competition, all of which demonstrated
how much they had learned during the assembly. It is pleasing to
see the winning designs go up on site to act as a permanent
reminder of the dangers."
Gary Mugglestone, site manager added: "Community safety has
always been a priority for William Davis and by having the
children's posters on display, this message is reinforced for the
whole community. We hope the children have learnt that building
sites are dangerous places and they will stay safe over the
Christmas holidays."
Richard Renwick MBE, chief executive, TunTum Housing Association
said: "We are delighted to have supported the poster campaign led
by William Davis to raise the awareness of the safety on
construction sites. The pupils and staff at Huntingdon Primary
School have been an absolute pleasure to work with."
The £4m Balisier Court scheme has received financial
support from the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) and
Nottingham City Council. When complete in Spring 2011, the scheme
will provide 32 two bedroom apartments to complement Balisier
Court, an existing sheltered scheme for the over 55's.
