Roots Human Resources CIC has announced the successful
applicants for its two free 12-month human resources subscriptions
offer, which was launched on Social Enterprise Day 2010.
The winning organisations were picked from social enterprises
across the UK that met specific criteria, including number of
employees and percentage of income derived from trading. The
winners receive subscriptions to Roots HR's COMPLY employment law
and people management advice service, tailored to meet the unique
needs of the third sector. The subscriptions will be funded from
Roots HR's trading surpluses, as stakeholder consultation revealed
that this is what organisations would most like to see Roots HR use
them for.
The successful organisations are Sport 4 Life UK and Birth and
Beyond Consultancy Ltd.
Based in Birmingham, Sport 4 Life UK is dedicated to changing
lives through the power of sport. The organisation provides sports
activities, exercise classes and healthy lifestyle products.
Through helping people to play and to participate in sport, Sport 4
Life UK aims to support them in becoming healthier as well as in
developing themselves and their communities. Their Smoothie Bike
Hire service, which trades nationally, has proved a particular hit.
Riders are able to blend a healthy smoothie as they pedal!
Sport 4 Life intends to use its Roots HR COMPLY subscription
to strengthen its HR procedures.
Birth and Beyond Consultancy Ltd, is based in Hull. It provides
birth preparation classes for women and their families at either a
low cost or free of charge through NHS commissioning. The
organisation is shortly to open a studio café for subtle
health promotion and to ensure its sustainability. The Birth and
Beyond Consultancy will use its Roots HR subscription to improve
recruitment processes, amongst other things.
A team of Roots HR consultants chose these two organisations for
the free 12-month subscriptions because of their rapid growth and
ongoing need for HR support. Chief Executive Jan Golding explains:
"We received applications from some smaller organisations whose
needs were around one-off projects. Both of the successful
applicants have ongoing need, so we will be able to help them
derive the fullest possible benefit from the subscriptions.
However, we are also looking at ways to work with two of the
unsuccessful applicants to deliver the project work they need."
Roots HR will monitor the outcomes of these free subscriptions
to identify the benefit to the organisations and their service
users. The information gained will be used to inform the design of
future offers that use Roots HR's trading surpluses.
