Staff from two Telford-based project teams have been
on the crest of a wave to help raise cash for charity.
The intrepid fundraisers paddled their way along the River
Severn in Ironbridge in a canoeing challenge which has raised
around £400 for Severn Hospice.
Taking part were site staff from Kier Moss, who are currently
developing the new Abraham Darby Sports and Learning Community in
Madeley, and members of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF)
team at Telford & Wrekin Council.
Jason Powell, for Kier Moss, said: "We had an excellent time
with our colleagues from the BSF team, and it was a real challenge
but everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
"As well as developing the relationship between the two groups,
the event gave us the opportunity to raise vital cash for a very
important cause.
"At Kier Moss, we are committed to supporting local charities
and organisations, and we hope the canoeing challenge will be the
first of many events that will benefit the community we're working
in."
The Kier team - accompanied by the company mascot, Kieran -
presented the cheque to Leah Roberts, in a special ceremony at the
Severn Hospice.
She said: "We are extremely grateful for this generous donation,
and it's great to see two teams who work closely together every day
working just as hard for charity."
Kier Moss has agreed a five-year plan with Telford & Wrekin
Council which will see them working together to deliver 15 sports
and learning communities across the borough.
Work on the Abraham Darby site has kick-started the region's
eagerly-awaited £200 million Borough Towns Initiative -
Sports and Learning Communities scheme.
