Meet Birmingham, which works to raise the profile of the city
and wider region as a conference and events destination, has been
nominated in the "not for profit" category of the Marketing
Excellence Awards 2010. The ceremony, to be held at London's
Grosvenor House Hotel in February, pits Marketing Birmingham's
business tourism campaign against projects such as Drinkaware, Keep
Britain Tidy and the University for the Creative Arts.
The Birmingham Convention Bureau (BCB), the service delivery
element of the Meet Birmingham campaign, boasts an excellent
reputation for hosting political party conferences, with the
Conservative Party's autumn event generating a £47 million
economic boom for the West Midlands. Other great successes over the
past few years include the welcoming of over 20,000 delegates from
156 nation states for the 100th Rotary International Convention in
2009, IPEX 2010 at the NEC, attracting more than 50,000 visitors
and the International Society of Thrombosis & Haemostatis
Conference with 6,000 representatives.
Ian Taylor, Commercial Director at BCB, commented:
"Birmingham is being increasingly recognised as the events city,
with a strong track record of hosting high-profile conventions,
demonstrated again this autumn with the delivery of another
successful Conservative Party Conference. This nomination reflects
the hard work that we are doing and BCB remains as committed as
ever to attracting and retaining events in Birmingham and the wider
region, increasing the economic benefit to the city."
The awards, by The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM),
recognise and reward organisations that have made an excellent
contribution and highlight the fundamental position that marketing
occupies in business.
