A 20 year-old carpentry apprentice has scooped a top accolade
after being named Apprentice of the Year by the Stourbridge-based
Western region of Mansell Construction.
Jack Carey, from Stourbridge, was given the award after working
on several major Mansell projects across the region. He is a key
member of the refurbishment team which has developed a reputation
for high quality fit-out work for a wide and diverse client
base.
Jack studied for his NVQ in carpentry at Walsall Housing Group's
training centre, after which he completed his NVQ level three at
Stourbridge Apprentice Training Centre.
He was presented with his award by divisional manager Andy Price
and construction manager Dean Howard at Dartmouth Park, West
Bromwich where Jack is currently involved in Mansell's latest
project to help restore the park to its former glory.
Highly Commended in Mansell's apprentice awards was 20-year old
Steven Lediard, from West Bromwich. Both Jack and Steven have now
completed their NVQ level three and will shortly move on to the
next stage of their career development with Mansell as site
management trainees.
Mansell regional managing director, Steve Davies, said that
Mansell put a lot of effort into encouraging youngsters to learn
construction trades, and believed that it was vital to ensure that
key skills were maintained, and that young people see construction
as a career of choice.
He said, "Mansell fully supports career development through
apprenticeships and we take their training extremely seriously.
Jack has shown outstanding progress, and having the opportunity to
work on important projects for Mansell has given him the skills and
experience needed to become a fully qualified carpenter. He will
shortly be embarking on his site management training and clearly
has a long term career with us".
