Investment in growth of caring team

East Midlands-based Lotus Care Technology Ltd is a respected provider of specialist products and services for the health sector.

The Nottingham company was established in 2007, providing services to privately-owned care and dementia homes across the UK from small establishments through to large corporate premises.

"We provide monitoring products and services such as nurse call systems, door access units, Intruder alarms and CCTV systems along with service and maintenance contracts," explains Director Phil Davis.

Rapid growth

Lotus Care has grown rapidly in the last two years and continues to recruit staff to meet demand. "Our strategy is to consolidate in the short term, reinvesting profits back into the business," says Phil. "Longer term we want to grow the retail and tools side which includes the installation of monitoring systems. Our aim is to take the team from five up to around 12 staff, continuing to provide employment opportunities for the local area."

Between them, Phil, fellow Director Paul Smith and their team have many years' experience of monitoring systems and are ideally placed to provide solutions to the often complex applications required by their clients. "We take the time to provide systems that are specific and correct and being independent means we can select the best solution from the full range of products on the market," adds Phil.

Skills investment

With such rapid growth, Phil wanted to ensure everyone kept their skills up to the minute and contacted the local Business Link service to ask for a training review of the business. "An adviser came to visit us and carried out a comprehensive review which helped us to identify needs and develop an ongoing training programme," says Phil.

The Directors are no exception to the training. Keen to win more public sector contracts their local Business Link adviser has helped them to identify funding available in a drive to develop their tendering and leadership skills.

Access all areas

The Lotus Care team have found Business Link to be a great access route to further help and support. "Through Business Link we were able to identify and successfully apply for, funding towards the costs of staff training  and development.

"And it's not only the funding that has been of benefit," adds Phil. "We have linked in to the Manufacturing Advisory Service and received a range of relevant and useful templates, information and event dates from our Business Link adviser.

"We've also discovered the wealth of information and online tools available on the Business Link website. It's well worth contacting them and the whole business has definitely benefited from their involvement."
