An increasingly strong market for used farm machinery created a
staggering amount of interest at a recent farm dispersal auction
near Newark.
The sale at Willoughby Farm, Norwell, saw approximately 600
requests for sales brochures leading up to the sale with around 350
registering for buyers numbers on the day. Purchasers came from far
and wide, travelling from as far as County Durham, London and North
Wales.
The well maintained equipment for sale was a real credit to the
partners of R J Gent and Sons who are retiring from farming, and
Platts Harris at Tuxford who have maintained the kit
throughout.
The successful sale saw 288 lots sell, including a McConnell
PA93 hedge cutter made £3,100; a Kvernland 4 furrow plough
£1,750; a Kuhn HR 3500 power harrow £2,300; an ACE muck
spreader reaching £1,550.
Further lots were sold included: a 2007 Teagle Tomahawk 8080
bale spreader £7,650; a 2007 New Holland BR750A round baler
£12,000; a 1985 Bailey 14 tonne grain trailer £5,600; a
1997 JCB 526-S Turbo Farm Special Loadall £14,600; a 1992 and
1989 Massey Ferguson 3060 tractors £6,100 and £4,600
respectively; a 2003 New Holland TL100 tractor with Quickie Loader
£22,800; a 2008 New Holland T6070 tractor with 990 hours
£34,600.
But the final lot of the day was a fine example of a 1988 New
Holland Clayson 8040 combine harvester which, with just 1400 hours
on the clock, was finally sold for £16,000. Its new home
being a small mixed farm in Cumbria.
Ian Calverley, of auctioneers Fisher German, comments "We are
beginning to see a trend with farm machinery sales. There has been
a huge rise in demand for second hand farm machinery which prompted
such a high turnout. High quality machinery is highly sought after
with good prices still being obtained, even if we are in a
perceived economic downturn".
The next farm machinery sale to be held by the Fisher German
Retford office is in Normanton, Southwell. For further information
