Leamington-based Comtec Translations Limited completes another
successful year with a further professional accolade.
The family-run company was voted runner-up in the Development of
International Markets award category of The Midlands Family
Business Awards 2010, the first-ever initiative to spotlight the
region's most talented family businesses and their leaders.
The awards are underwritten by The Wilson Organisation, which
provides professional independent insurance, financial, risk
management and corporate finance solutions to businesses and
individuals both regionally and nationally, with headline sponsors
RSM Tenon.
Comtec Translations' Director Sophie Howe received the award
from Karen Hickling of Barclays, sponsor of the Development of
International Markets category, at the Awards' ceremony at
Thrumpton Hall in Nottinghamshire on Thursday 11th November 2010.
The judging schedule in September involved Comtec in informal
interviews with category judges John Maclean of knitwear
manufacturers John Smedley, Maggie Neale representing UKTI and John
Steele of The Wilson Organisation.
"We are delighted that our international impact and influence
has been recognised by this award," says Sophie, who took over the
running of Comtec Translations from her mother Isabella Moore CBE
in 2007. "I have learned from Isabella that strong management
systems and an eye for detail make for a solid business and our
growing international client base is evidence of this."
Comtec Translations has doubled turnover in the past two years
and counts Jaguar Land Rover, Amtico, Virgin Galactic, the European
Commission and European Parliament among its clients. With a global
network of professional linguists, the company provides translation
and interpreting services in over 200 languages.
Commenting on the shortlisted finalists in each of the Awards'
ten categories, Mark Samworth, one of the Awards' panel of judges
and a Director of the Institute for Family Business and of Midlands
family business Samworth Brothers, said: "All winners and
shortlisted finalists demonstrated an obvious passion for their
businesses and their customers - something that clearly made a
difference and demonstrates why customers are so loyal to family
businesses."
Wilsons' MD Charlotte Prow added: "One of the main aims of the
Awards was to demonstrate the value that family businesses bring to
the Midlands economy, and I am convinced that this has been
achieved, based on the high calibre of both the businesses and
individuals who have entered, and each of those who achieved
recognition as overall winners and runners-up in the Awards, such
as Comtec."
"All winners, finalists and indeed every single entrant of the
Awards simply proves the wealth of top quality family run and owned
businesseswe have operating in every corner of the Midlands."
More than one-hundred and twenty family run or owned businesses
from across the Midlands entered the Awards, which are a
not-for-profit venture, with all proceeds going to charities
supporting young enterprise and young people - The Children's
Society, The Willow Foundation and The Venture Foundation. A full
list of the winners and runners-up in the Awards' ten categories is
available at www.familybusinessawards.co.uk. Details of the 2011
Awards will be revealed in January 2011.
