Cold snap drives business demand for remote working IT services

Internet Central, an established provider of internet business solutions is urging all local companies to plan and be prepared for the continuing cold snap.

As more and more companies are looking to ensure they can carry on operations, regardless of heavy snow or extreme weather conditions Internet Central says companies need to look at the capability of their IT systems - do they operate Virtual Private Networks (VPN), is their broadband capability enough to cope with the extra demand of home workers, do they have a VoIP telephone system in place so that customers can reach people and be transferred to people seamlessly. Even when employees are unable to reach the office, VoIP and rapid broadband connections allow companies to communicate effectively and securely through remote working virtual private networks (VPN's).

Maitland Hyslop, Managing Director of Internet Central said: "The recent extreme weather has really served as a warning for companies without the necessary IT infrastructure and security. Many local businesses have experienced heavy losses as employees have been forced to work from home - and with no means for employees to connect to the corporate network from home securely, business days have simply been wasted."

Easily installed in small and medium enterprises, virtualisation systems are a low-cost solution for staying connected throughout this winter. Employees can connect into the network server securely from home and customer phone calls can be transferred directly to a telephone wherever the employee is. Less hardware is normally needed on the premises too, bringing the additional power-saving and environmental advantages as well as saving office space.

A number of local businesses have already seen the benefits of virtualisation systems. One local firm has cut power expenditure by 80%; and another has saved in excess of £20,000 on power costs after the installed virtualisation systems cut server numbers from 45 to just three.

Mr Hyslop added: "Weather forecasters are advising we are likely to have a long winter ahead of us. With snow and ice hindering people's commutes, it is vital businesses are proactive with their IT systems now, to ensure continuity.

"I've seen businesses fold because their IT infrastructure can't cope during extreme conditions. With VPN (Virtual Private Networks) and VoIP services, companies are protected from natural disasters as the IT recovery is instant, corporate communications are supported through a secure network, and response times to any IT problems are literally within minutes.

Virtualisation technology is essential for all local businesses, improving efficiency and guaranteeing continuity when employees need to work from home."
