student/graduate guests on the evening.
Six students at The University of Northampton were the first
recipients of awards from The Chancellors Fund at a recent event at
Avenue Campus.
The Chancellors Fund was set up at the University in March 2010
to provide funds to help launch a new initiative, provide
additional training or research needs or to give assistance to
alleviate student hardships. All staff and students at University
can apply to the fund.
The students were presented with their awards by the
University's Chancellor Baroness Falkner of Margravine. A selection
panel chose the award recipients in October 2010.
The presentation evening was also a thank you event to donors
and philanthropists who support the University, which is a
registered charity in its own right.
University Vice Chancellor Professor Nick Petford welcomed
guests on the evening with a thank you for their support so far and
an address on how investment in universities really does make a
difference to individuals and to society:
"Philanthropic funds add value - they drive forward first class
research, provide state of the art facilities and support
scholarships and bursaries...this is our opportunity to publically
thank you for your commitment, both financially and in kind, to
supporting The University of Northampton..."
Debra Greaves, Head of Development at The University of
Northampton, also announced on the evening that the University has
for this academic year (1 August-31 July), so far, reached
£322,000 in total pledges and matched funding from generous
donations and support; all of which goes back into student support
and other key support areas for the University.
The closing date for the next round of applications to The
Chancellor's Fund is 28 February 2010. For further information,
