Leamington Football Club is being recognised by this year's IOG
Industry Awards, a prestigious industry-wide platform that
highlights the high standards of volunteer and professional grounds
professionals and facilities, from grass roots to professional
stadia level.
The Warwickshire club is not only a finalist in the Award
category for the Grass Roots Sports Ground of the Year (the ground
is also used by Leamington Lions Ladies FC and Leamington Under 15
Academy FC) but it has also been shortlisted for the Environmental
Project of the Year Award (sponsored by Ransomes Jacobsen).
Referring to the club's New Windmill ground, the Warwickshire
Wildlife Trust has said it was "encouraged by the positive steps
undertaken …and attitudes towards managing the site for
wildlife…particularly pleased to see hedgerows with native
trees and shrub species… enhancing the landscape, providing
refuge and food for birds and other wildlife."
Organised by the Institute of Groundsmanship - the leading
membership organisation for everyone involved in the management of
sports pitches, landscape and amenity facilities - the annual IOG
Industry Awards embrace 17 categories of entry covering sport,
young people and the environment, and the winners will be announced
and presented with their Awards, Oscar-style, at the SWALEC
Stadium, Cardiff on Thursday November 25 by talkSPORT Radio
presenters Mark Saggers and Micky Quinn.
