The merger of Birmingham-based Shakespeare Putsman with Nottingham law firm Berryman has completed today, Monday 1st November 2010.

The merger, first announced in August, creates a Midlands-wide firm employing 470 people and a turnover of c. £30m, with key locations in Birmingham, Stratford and Nottingham.

The new region-wide firm is set to unveil an all-new brand in March 2011 and as its chief executive Paul Wilson explains, has set itself ambitious plans for growth:

"Within the next three to four years, the strategy is to grow revenue to £50m, by taking full advantage of our now very strong foothold in both the East and West Midlands and the creation of a leading Midlands law firm.

"The firm operates in a diverse range of practice areas, most notably Property, Dispute Resolution, Insurance and Banking, Corporate Services and Private Client, with a number of high profile and long-standing clients, and our strategy maintains the focus on outstanding client service in these key areas to support the growth strategy.

"Through our Midlands-wide presence and key locations in Birmingham, Stratford and Nottingham, the intention is to grow organically and through merger to achieve our turnover target, and to build a premiere Midlands firm with a real focus on quality. At the same time, the firm will build on its strong local presence and the broad portfolio of legal services and excellent client service, and retain and hire the best Midlands talent."

Richard Brackenbury adds: "In Nottingham, the firm will continue to trade under the Berryman name and its excellent team will maintain its reputation as a pioneering, dynamic and ambitious law firm. These like-minded characteristics are what make the merger between Berryman and Shakespeare Putsman an ideal fit, which for clients is excellent news as they will continue to benefit from a first class legal team on their doorstep, which from today, has even more resource at its disposal."

The firm is shortly to announce a number of key hires and staff moves across its three locations.
