A Shrewsbury dental practice is offering free Mouth Cancer
checks throughout November to raise awareness of the fast growing
disease and support Mouth Cancer Action month.
Explaining why the practice decided to offer free checks, Dr
Emma Preston from The Dental Spa said: "One person dies of Mouth
Cancer every five hours in the UK, which is frightening. It is also
unnecessary, because with early diagnosis survival chances can be
more than ninety percent. This means better awareness and early
detection can save lives."
Years ago it was mainly older men who contracted the disease,
which is known to be related to smoking and drinking alcohol. These
days, however, only twice as many men as women suffer from Mouth
Cancer, and more young people are being diagnosed with the disease
than ever before. So we are saying, if in doubt get it checked
out!"
