One of Shrewsbury's leading legal practices have said goodbye to
two of their long-established solicitors who retired from the
profession after nearly 90 years of joint service.
Linder Myers LLP, based in Shrewsbury Town Centre, bid farewell
to Stuart Lister and Spencer Newsome, formerly partners with Scott
Lister & Co Solicitors in Shrewsbury.
Staff also wished a happy retirement to receptionist Pauline
Woodcock, who hung up her headset after 22 years behind a desk at
Ireland's Mansion in the High Street.
A gathering to wish all three a fond farewell was held at the
solicitors on Friday(OCT 29).
In 2008 Linder Myers LLP acquired the practice of Scott Lister
Solicitors of which Mr Lister and Mr Newsome were longstanding
partners.
Mr Lister has completed a staggering 50 years in the legal
profession. Bill Jarvis, the regional managing partner of
Linder Myers LLP said, "Stuart has been an inspiration to most
lawyers in Shrewsbury. His enthusiasm, dedication, amazing
communication skills and his general joie de vivre made Stuart the
complete lawyer and was the reason for his exceptionally successful
career."
Mr Lister has a number of achievements for which he will be
fondly remembered. He excelled at rugby union, playing both for
Shrewsbury RFC as well as the county side before he retired from
the game and became a well-known national referee.
As well as rugby, he also enjoyed success on the cricket field
and was a regular at Alberbury Cricket Club before retiring to
become a local cricket umpire. His biggest claim to fame in
the sporting arena was to captain the Shrewsbury team in the 1969
Jeux sans Frontieres which clearly put Shrewsbury on the European
map.
Mr Newsome hails from and started his career in Yorkshire before
a chance meeting with Mr Lister resulted in his move to Shrewsbury
where he soon joined the partnership of Scott Lister.
He has been in the legal profession for nearly 40 years.
Mr Jarvis added: "He will be missed by all his work colleagues
and clients. Both Spencer and Stuart come from the old school
where the clients always came first. Between them they will
leave a legacy of nearly 90 years' dedicated service to the
profession which has continued to go through a series of
metamorphoses over the last thirty years.
"We will miss Spencer, Stuart and Pauline for their humour,
knowledge, wisdom and experience but clients of Linder Myers LLP
can be reassured that their achievements and successes will
continue to be emulated. We wish them all the best of health
and enjoyment of their well-deserved retirements."
Mr Lister said Mrs Woodcock was everything a "wonderful"
receptionist should be and had been the first port of call for
hundreds of clients over the years.
He said: "I know that nobody wants her to leave but we wish her
the very best in her retirement."
