An environmentally-friendly evolution of its business has won
Shropshire-based Hobsons Brewery the top title at the Society of
Independent Brewers (SIBA) Brewing Business Awards 2010, presented
last night in London.
Hobsons Brewery formed in1993 was born out of a desire to
produce delicious regional ale, integral to the success of the
regional brewery has been its passion for its provenance and
innovative thinking when it comes to sustainable energy saving
measures.
At the prestigious awards ceremony Hobsons Brewery won the Best
Green Business category and Best Overall Business Award, with
judges praising the Shropshire brewer for both its vision to become
the country's leading sustainable brewery and its impressive
implementation of environmental measures.
Sustainability has become an increasingly important part of the
brewery and over the past couple of years the team led by Nick
Davis has embraced green technologies to reduce their environmental
impact, such as the installation of a 18m high wind turbine that
provides a third of the Brewery's electricity requirements, a
ground source heat pump system that chills the cellarage and heats
the offices, a rainwater harvesting system used in flushing and
cleaning down ancillary processes.
Collecting the Award, Hobsons Brewery owner Nick Davis said,
"Over time, we have constantly evolved our business, so it is
gratifying to win this recognition from our industry experts and
peers. We're grateful to our employees, customers and drinkers who
have helped our business succeed."
Julian Grocock, SIBA's chief executive, said, "Hobsons has
demonstrated an exceptional attitude towards quality and the
culture of local brewing, they are a shinning example of how a
small business can develop sustainable and innovative eco-saving
measures."
Hobsons are looking to set up an open evening and invite local
businesses to visit the brewery and learn first hand how a small
business can implement new technologies and make eco-credentials an
integral part of their business.
