Christmas is coming - and there's plenty to look forward to in
the Peak District and Derbyshire as the celebrations get into full
swing.
Visitors and locals alike can feast on festive spirit at more
than 130 events promoted by Visit Peak District & Derbyshire,
the area's official tourist board - at everything from specialist
food and gift fairs to specially themed walks and treasure
trails.
For a touch of class, they can catch a seasonal event at one of
the area's richly-decorated historic houses and savour fun family
activities, gourmet evenings, fireside carols, candlelight tours,
hands-on craft sessions plus a spot of shopping.
They can get switched on at sparkling Christmas lights displays,
splash the cash at a Dickensian Market or Victorian Weekend and be
dazzled by a Christmas Tree Festival or Northern Lights Firework
Display.
Fun seekers can sing their heart out at a carol concert in the
spectacular setting of a show cavern or tune into a spellbinding
selection of musical concerts at a wide range of venues across the
area, dine in style or dance the night away with cocktails and
cabaret.
They can also take in a traditional pantomime for a great family
night out, then pause to reflect on the spiritual side of the
season at a cathedral, church or Christingle service or mystery
play.
Those who prefer a piece of the action can climb aboard a Santa
Steam Special, send shivers down their spine on a Ghost Walk, jog
along to a sponsored Santa Dash or wander through a magical Winter
Wonderland.
"There's so much going on in and around the Peak District,
there's no need to venture further afield to get in the party mood
during the festive season," said David Thornton, the tourist
board's Head of Marketing and Deputy Chief Executive.
"From traditional markets and Christmas illuminations to festive
concerts and themed walks, there are scores of events to suit
people of all ages and interests and make this year's celebrations
really special."
