Families are to be offered free safety checks to help allay
fears over the safety of window blinds.
Long established window blind retailer and manufacturer, Barnes
Blinds, has launched a drive to make window blinds safer.
Several children have been injured after getting caught up in
window blind cords and two youngsters died in incidents in southern
Staffordshire in early 2010.
Now Barnes Blinds, of Kidsgrove and Hanley, has pledged to carry
out a free home visit for concerned parents and child carers who
contact them - and offer a free safer alternative to the simple
looped cord.
Adam Barnes said the company are happy to help any new or
existing customers and families in North Staffordshire and South
Cheshire, with free advice regarding any safety concerns they may
have and with the backing of the BBSA can offer numerous
alternatives to traditional blind cords and controls.
"There are a variety of safe alternatives available on the
market" explained Adam. "We will discuss the options available for
different types of blinds and offer a safer solution free of
charge."
A family run firm, Barnes Blinds employs around 30 people in
North Staffordshire. It has two showrooms, in Kidsgrove and Hanley,
and a workshop which manufactures blinds for Barnes' own customers
and companies across the UK.
Adam said: "Barnes Blinds is fully supportive of the British
Blinds and Shutters Association's Make it Safe campaign - and we
are happy to take the campaign a step further by offering safer
alternatives.
"Our staff carry samples of the alternative fittings with them
and in most cases will be able to fit the required safer fixing
during the initial home visit."
