Nottingham's Berridge Junior School pupils can now combine work
with healthy play thanks to Wilford IT service and solutions
provider, XMA.
The company teamed up with Hewlett Packard (HP) to donate two
laptops to the inner-city school which runs its own after-school
club for 24 pupils aged between 3 - 13 years. And, thanks to
HP's PC4PE scheme, the pupils received an added bonus - six top
quality footballs so they can enjoy a healthy kick-about too!
Dawn Parish, Extended Schools Manager at Berridge Junior School
said "We'd like to say thanks to XMA and HP for kindly donating the
new laptops. The children are very excited about having them
in the club and I'm sure they will be used a lot and enjoyed by all
the children. They were quite impressed with the footballs
too. It's vital to encourage some healthy physical activity
alongside more serious learning."
The PC4PE campaign enables schools that purchase selected HP
products to collect points which they can then cash in towards a
wide range of school and sports PE equipment.
Luke Doneghan, Business Manager at XMA, said: "It's a well known
fact that computers can lead to better learning. They can be
used for research, educational games and to encourage interaction
between pupils. We wanted to put something back into our
local community and were impressed with the way Berridge's
after-school club is engaging and encouraging its pupils to
continue their learning out of school hours whilst having fun at
the same time."
Wendy Pugh, HP specialist, said: "Sport and PE is a vital part
of a child's development and can help to make them more dynamic and
active. The PC4PE scheme gives something back to those schools who
invest in HP solutions that benefits the children. Local businesses
can also sign up to the scheme and nominate a school to which to
donate their points to."
