Graham Kelly, a senior home care worker with Sutton Coldfield based Care Companions Ltd is celebrating after reaching the finals of The Great West Midlands Care Awards which form part of The Great British Care Awards.

Graham, who is from Streetly, was entered in to the Home Care Worker Award by his boss Sushila Patel who commented:  "I wanted to nominate Graham for the Home Care Worker award as he is absolutely passionate about delivering excellent service and our clients have, in their own words, been 'blown away' by the exceptional care he provides".

The Great British Care Awards are a celebration of excellence across the care sector. The purpose of the awards is to promote best practice within the sector and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

Graham has worked in the health and social care sector for over 25 years, he has a Level 2 National Vocation Qualification in Health and Social Care, has completed an extensive range of practical training and has specialist experience of working with people who have challenging behaviour and learning disabilities.

Graham commented: "I was happy to be entered for the award as it recognises the important and sometimes challenging role which the home care worker has in ensuring that the elderly and people with disabilities and learning difficulties can continue to enjoy a high quality of life whilst remaining in their own homes".

The ceremony took place at the National Motorcycle Museum on 9th October where there were around 400 people entered into the 17 award categories.

Sushila concluded: "I believe it is important to highlight and commend excellence within the care sector.  Graham is representative of the majority of staff at Care Companions who are highly experienced, competent and professional.  All our staff either have a nursing qualification or an NVQ in Health & Social Care.  This is something that I am proud of, and I always urge people to ascertain what qualifications a care worker has before instructing a home care agency.
