Shrewsbury-based Linder Myers Solicitors is urging people across
the county not to become victims of ongoing timeshare issues after
BBC Watchdog highlighted the actions of one particular company.
Watchdog released a special report on October 22, 2010 after the
programme secretly filmed meetings with one company.
For three hours, the couple were subjected to "very clever,
psychological, pressure sales". Watchdog reported that as a result,
they were left with the option of setting up their own form of
referral agency which would cost them £14,500 and entering
into an alleged illegal pyramid scheme.
The BBC Watchdog programme tried to track down the owners of
this company, but were left with a trail of false addresses and no
firm answers.
Shrewsbury-based Linder Myers Solicitors has been involved in
dealing with Timeshare and Holiday Club complaints. In line
with the Watchdog findings, it appears that numbers are still
growing.
Many individuals and couples are being subjected to high
pressure sales techniques and in many instances being persuaded to
be involved in what are illegal pyramid schemes.
Most recently, Linder Myers LLP have started to receive many
complaints against one particular holiday organisation namely Club
La Costa. In particular, concerns have been raised in
connection with the manner in which Club La Costa products have
been sold and ongoing liabilities, even after the Club La Costa
products have been purchased.
Numerous individuals coming to Linder Myers have been sold
linked financial products to purchase their club membership and are
now facing serious financial hardship as a result.
Timeshare contract expert Stephen Boyd of Linder Myers said
"Unfortunately many customers of Timeshare and Holiday Clubs have
been victims of sky high maintenance fees, scaremongering tactics
and clauses in their contracts that mean should they want to sell
their Timeshare or related products, they cannot do so".
"Due to the complexity of these cases it is difficult for one
individual to raise a case against the owners of such Timeshare or
Holiday Club companies. Litigation and Court costs can be
high, which are often not viable for couples or individuals who
have only spent relatively modest sums on purchasing their
Timeshare/Holiday Club in the first place".
"Obviously if there are many individuals who have similar
complaints against Club La Costa or perhaps any other similar type
of company they should get in touch with me" Stephen continued. "I
will then be able to assess whether steps can be taken to resolve
the ongoing concerns".
