Staff from a Shrewsbury accountancy firm have raised over £600 for charity with their annual quiz night.

Dyke Yaxley Accountants, from Old Potts Way, held their latest event at the Reabrook Social Club, when 15 teams made up of staff, friends and family put their knowledge to the test.

Organiser Jackie Young said: "We were delighted with the turnout and with the generous support for our chosen charity, The Alzheimer's Society. The quiz was just one of the ways we'll be supporting the charity this year, and our aim is to raise £1500 during the next 12 months."

Hosted by Simon Leah and Chris Dorricott, from the Payroll Department, the quiz was won by the Corporate Department Team.

Jackie said the firm had chosen The Alzheimer's Society after it was suggested by Nicola Storar, who is a member of the company's Corporate Department.

"Nicola's Nan had Alzheimer's and sadly died aged 65 after suffering with dementia for years, so the Society is a cause close to her heart.

"She has embarked on a series of fund raising efforts, including an awe-inspiring trek to Everest Base Camp next year, and so we decided to choose the Society as our charity for the year."

Nicola said she was really pleased Dyke Yaxley had chosen to support such an important cause.

"Dementia affects one in 14 people over the age of 65, and one in six over the age of 80, and there is currently no cure. The money raised by The Alzheimer's Society will be used to help improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their families, and I'm thrilled that Dyke Yaxley have shown such great support.

"The trek to Everest Base Camp is a major challenge as I'm going to be trekking for 13 days and covering a distance of over 120km. But I am determined to complete it and raise as much money as I possibly can."
