Solicitors Alsters Kelley are running a free seminar next month
(November) to help business owners looking to make the best of
recent changes in the tax regime.
The event is on Thursday 4 November at The Warwickshire Golf
& Country Club in Leek Wootton near Warwick and will review the
Coalition Government's changes to the system, which came into force
in June this year.
Colin Witherall, Head of Corporate in the Coventry and
Warwickshire firm's Company Commercial department, and corporate
tax adviser Lisa Stevenson of Parisi Tax LLP will lead the
seminar.
Mr Witherall said: "Our first impression was that the changes
for CGT Relief looked quite dramatic and good for business owners.
They increased the rate of CGT from 18 per cent to 28 per cent,
while raising the sums available under Entrepreneur's Relief (where
the reduced rate of 10% applies) from £2 million to £5
million. Inevitably, the devil is in the detail.
"The way in which the relief is calculated has been streamlined
which makes it simpler in some ways but there are a number of
pitfalls to watch for that can easily be missed in normal
commercial situations."
The seminar will focus on corporate taxation of small to medium
enterprises and some of the steps which they can take to mitigate
their tax liability.
Anyone interested in registering for the seminar can do so by
emailing cocoseminars@alsterskelley.com.
