Sanctuary Group, a leading UK housing and care provider, has
been shortlisted for a prestigious environmental
accolade.
Sanctuary has reached the finals of the Worcestershire
Ambassadors Corporate Social Responsibility Awards 2010 and is
competing for the coveted environment award.
Supported by Worcestershire County Council, the awards are
designed to recognise businesses that have stepped up their
approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR). Categories
include 'environment', 'community', 'workplace and staff' and
'individual award for excellence in CSR'.
Finalists in the environment category have been selected for
reducing their carbon footprint, efforts made to source local
suppliers and working with like-minded organisations.
Sanctuary impressed judges with the extent of its CSR
programme.
Sanctuary's announcement follows the recent publication of its
first annual corporate social responsibility report. The
document outlines priorities for the future, as well as recounting
developments over the past year.
Included in the report is an update of Sanctuary's environmental
and sustainability performance, plus an overview of the work
carried out to create new employment opportunities. Featured
are the company's successful graduate, apprenticeship and work
experience schemes.
The report also sets out projects funded through the Group's
Community Initiatives Fund, which has been created to support
communities and enhance lives across England and Scotland.
Sanctuary Group Chief Executive, David Bennett, said: "Being
shortlisted for this award and publishing our first ever CSR report
are real achievements for Sanctuary.
"We are intensively involved in a range of activities which
demonstrate our commitment to social and environmental improvement.
We have ambitious goals and I am confident that we can build
on successes to date in time for our next report in 2011."
Winners of the Worcestershire Ambassadors Corporate Social
Responsibility Awards will be announced at a reception on Thursday
25th November at Worcester Rugby Club.
