A firm of Shropshire business consultants says recent new work
shows that entrepreneurs in the region are thinking outside the
box, moving into a diverse range of emerging industries and
recognising that every aspect of the business must be planned to
secure a profitable future.
Ellen Morley, Principal of The Business Company in Shrewsbury,
said: "Businesses need plans to optimise growth, ensure development
and focus on priorities - irrespective of their field. Currently we
are working with some very diverse businesses but their goals and
visions are the same, albeit they require different forms of
support."
One such innovative, fast growing local business is Fre-Energy,
a company which hit the headlines last year after inventing and
patenting an award-winning anaerobic digestion process for
converting cow waste slurry and chicken grit into
fertiliser.
"Fre-Energy needed a plan to focus their strategy and identify
key targets for development," says Ellen, "along with support for
building their business infrastructure. Their expertise, which
earned them the acclamation of being 'the leading technology for
anaerobic digestion globally' is very specific. They recognised a
different kind of expertise was required to develop an ambitious
business plan and achieve their full potential."
At the other end of the scale The Business Company acted as
'third eye' facilitators to draw out and define the development
strategy for Ladypace, a Shrewsbury fitness and well-being centre
looking to expand into a more holistic sphere.
"It is essential that the business plan is a living breathing
document," says Ellen, "So when we work with clients we facilitate
their strategic thinking about essential business goals, critical
objectives, clear targets and key performance indicators. We ensure
the business culture engenders the right behaviours to underpin the
future development and that aspects of operations, sales,
marketing, quality and HR are aligned. In short, we ensure the plan
fits together like a jigsaw and that all the pieces are
complimentary."
