Phoenix Square, which was built by Willmott Dixon in Leicester,
was been named Regeneration Project of the Year at the recent 2010
East Midlands Property Awards.
The Phoenix Square redevelopment scheme by Blueprint has seen
the transformation of a former factory site in the St Georges area
of Leicester into a vibrant mixed-use 'Cultural Quarter'.
The project was applauded by awards judges as 'leading from the
front' for providing a truly integrated scheme which mixes digital
media and arts, with creative space to work and also live.
Peter Owen, managing director for Willmott Dixon in the Midlands
commented: "The Digital Media Centre at Phoenix Square was designed
as a lively and active building on the streetscape on Leicester,
and it certainly has provided a culturally diverse and creative
focal point for the city. For Willmott Dixon it follows in a long
line of areas we have helped regenerate through the buildings we
create, helping to bring new prosperity to the local community
through the power of the build environment."
"It's a great honour to be associated with Phoenix Square and
would very much like to congratulate all who have been involved
with it."
Phoenix Square is notable for its many eco-friendly credentials
including solar and photovoltaic panels on the roof and ground
source heat pumps to supply natural heating.
Plans for phase 2 of the scheme were announced by Blueprint
earlier this year and are expected to result in the construction of
new hotels, office spaces and restaurants.
