The Varsity bar on Gibbett Hall Road, Coventry, enjoyed its
first weekend in style following an investment of £400,000
(reopened 6th Oct).
The refurbishment has created a very different looking bar with
softer furnishings, quirky fittings and the rear has been expanded
and transformed to increase the overall capacity from 250 to over
400. New offers include Costa coffee, a Sunday carvery, a new
menu and a lounge atmosphere that welcomes everyone from shoppers
and students to after-work drinks and weekend party nights.
Rachel Finnegan has been the manager of the Varsity bar for over
eight years and was awarded 'Food Pub of the Year' at pub
operator Barracuda Group's annual award ceremony earlier this year;
she says the customer feedback on the transformation has been
fantastic and the first weekend was better than expected.

Rachel says: "The refurbishment has made a big difference,
especially the extra space - the pub looks much more welcoming and
has a great atmosphere. We've really improved our overall offer,
with a new food menu, new cocktails, Costa coffee and real ale -
there is something for everyone."
The refurbishment has created 20 new full and part-time staff,
all of who have undergone training to improve service and standards
ahead of the re-launch. The bar is now open from 9am for breakfast
and will be hosting a range of parties and promotions, including
the VCard loyalty card which is available to customers to enjoy a
range of discounts on food and drinks.
