The Association of NHS Charities has appointed a leading lawyer
in the sector as its new Chair.
William Colacicchi is currently Senior Partner at law firm
Browne Jacobson where he specialises in trusts and charities and
heads up the firm's private client and charities group. He is
widely regarded as an expert in his field and was recently rated by
independent legal directory Chambers 2010 as a leader in his field.
William is also current Chairman of Nottingham University Hospitals
Charity and prior to that was a special trustee of the Queen's
Medical Centre Charity.
The Association of NHS Charities, itself a registered charity,
was formed in 2000 to represent NHS Charities throughout the
country: its members now include charities associated with all the
large and many smaller NHS trusts, holding combined assets of over
£2bn with annual income in excess of £300m.
William Colacicchi commented: "The Association has achieved
much in a relatively short period of time, successfully lobbying
government on a number of important issues and developments
affecting all NHS charities, and being recognised as the voice of
the NHS Charity sector.
"It also plays an important role in promoting best practice and
sharing knowledge in areas ranging from grant making and
fundraising to risk management and governance.
"It's a tremendous honour to be elected chair at such a critical
time for our members. This is a time of systemic change in
the NHS, in the responsibilities and role of government
departments, with the abolition of the Appointments Commission, and
in August the launch of a new taskforce to examine how red tape and
bureaucracy can be reduced for charities and community
organisations.
"As the leading voice for NHS charities in the country an
important part of our role over the next year will be to influence
government reform so reduce the impact of any regulatory burden and
reform on our member charities, particularly anything which
threatens their ability to attract funds from the thousands of
grateful patients and their families who every year donate so
generously to help improve and extend the wonderful service their
NHS Trusts provide."
