Pupils at a Solihull school received help and advice from
construction experts at Mansell at a special Industry Challenge day
aimed at helping them make informed GCSE choices.
Specialists from Mansell's Stourbridge-based Western Region lent
a hand when youngsters from Tudor Grange School set about
completing a range of problem solving activities designed to give
them an insight into the world of work.
Newly qualified carpentry and joinery apprentice Stephen Lediard
and construction manager Tony Causer provided help and advice to
the Year 8 youngsters as they set about making a cup which would
hold water, and landing equipment for an egg using a plastic cup,
balloon, piece of string and a plastic bag.
Stephen Lediard said, "The day, for me, was one of thorough
enjoyment. The youngsters were very well behaved and polite. They
are a credit to their school."
The Industry Challenge day has been a successful annual event in
the Tudor Grange School calendar for several years. As well as
giving the pupils experience of the world of industry, the day also
helps them develop teamwork and communication skills.
Mansell is currently working on a major £25 million
housing contract in Solihull. The Decent Homes partnering contract
is being carried out for Solihull Community Housing.
