Local people are to be consulted on a multi-million pound
development earmarked for Mablethorpe - which is expected to
breathe new life into the town and provide much-needed affordable
housing.
Developers say that the 30-acre scheme in Golf Road will
kick-start Mablethorpe's regeneration and redevelopment, providing
a catalyst for change and hundreds of new jobs for the area.
The company behind it, LB Mablethorpe, is now hoping to apply
for outline planning for the scheme which includes a new food
store. But before the application is lodged next month (Nov), it is
to ask local people their opinions at a two-day public consultation
event on 20 and 21 October.
At the consultations, people will be able to speak to developers
about outline proposals for the scheme which features 240 homes -
many of which would be allocated for shared ownership and social
rent. LB Mablethorpe says there are also plans for community
initiatives as part of the scheme, including recreation and play
space.
Paul McSorley of LB Mablethorpe said: "We have been working on a
detailed feasibility for Golf Road over the last two years and have
discussed the possibility of this mixed use development with the
local authority and local agencies. We believe that this scheme
would facilitate investment in Mablethorpe which would mark a
catalyst for change for people in the area.
"We believe the scheme will initiate the transformation of
Mablethorpe and will kick-start the town's regeneration at a time
when it needs it most. We expect the scheme to provide more than
200 long term jobs, together with 100's of construction jobs, with
opportunities for apprentices and trainees over the next several
years. We would be looking to use local skills and strike
partnerships with local colleges to provide the skills set
needed."
LB Mablethorpe, a joint venture of The Lindum Group and Breheny
Civil Engineers, says it has been in discussions with East Lindsey
District Council, Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council and
Lincolnshire County Council over several years.
"We have had in-depth discussions with local authorities. We
have looked at the land in Golf Road and the best way the land
could be developed," added Paul.
"We now strongly believe that we should be speaking to the
people of Mablethorpe and the surrounding area to find out what the
local community thinks to our initial proposals to gauge
opinion."
LB Mablethorpe is a joint venture between The Lindum Group and
Breheny Civil Engineers. New Linx Housing Trust, part of the the
Waterloo Housing Group, will facilitate the affordable homes on the
site.
The public consultations will take place on Wednesday 20 and
Thursday 21 October from 11am to 7pm at Mablethorpe Library and
Community Access Centre, Stanley Road, Mablethorpe.
