The 20 teams from around the UK who took part in a corporate
golf day organised by healthcare insurer BHSF, raised over
£1,700 for a charity dedicated to the prevention of breast
cancer.
Each one who took part in the event held at Stonebridge Golf
Club at Meriden in the West Midlands, paid either £5 to wear
pink or a fine if they did not, towards the Genesis Breast Cancer
Prevention Appeal.
Genesis, based in Manchester, is the UK's only charity entirely
dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer, a disease which
affects one in 10 women and one in 1000 men.
Siobhan Race, marketing manager at Birmingham-based BHSF, said:
"Our association with Genesis came about after we launched our
Plan4life Cancer cover, which pays a lump sum on diagnosis of any
form of cancer.
"Once we learned of the important work Genesis is championing,
we were keen to help them spread the word on their efforts and also
help them raise some much needed money".
Jonathan Byefield, of AXA subsidiary Secure Health, who played
on the day, said: "We are lucky to be in a position where our jobs
allow us to get together in this way and to appreciate the benefits
of sound good health.
"To be able to raise money to help those who are not so lucky is
even better. The BHSF day is always a great day in the calendar and
there is always an ethical community-based theme to it".
