Firms in Coventry and Warwickshire are to be presented with the
business case for the high speed rail scheme which is programmed to
be routed through the region.
Stephen McFarlane, HS2's West Midlands Business Case Manager, is
speaking at the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber headquarters
ticket only breakfast event on November 5.
He will explain the reasons behind £30bn project which
could start as early as 2015 and will mean travellers can get from
Birmingham to London in just 50 minutes.
If the plans were executed, the line would link a new Birmingham
station to London Euston, on a route running just south of
Aylesbury, and in between Coventry and Kenilworth.
The train would travel at speeds of 250mph reducing the current
journey time of 1hr 24 minutes by almost half.
The plans for the high speed rail line, proposed by former
minister for transport Lord Adonis in 2009, have recently been
amended and discussed at the Conservative Party Conference in
Birmingham.
The meeting, which is open to Chamber members only, will give
businesses the chance to hear the latest information.
Alan Durham, director of policy at the Chamber, said: "The event
will provide the opportunity for local businesses to hear a proper
explanation of the high speed line and the impact it could have on
their companies.
"It is essential that the businesses hear about the plans and
are fully informed on the pros and cons of the line.
"The project is already attracting strong debate and we are keen
for our members to hear all of the facts before making their
judgement.
"There is already strong interest in the event and we are
expecting that to increase as the date gets closer - so it is
crucial for Chamber members to book on as soon as possible."
