Playing traditional family games during car journeys is still
one of the favourite ways Worcestershire children pass the time,
despite the emergence of handheld computers and in-car DVD
players.
According to the survey commissioned by Redditch Volkswagen
almost half of children play 'I spy' while on a family car journey,
while over a third prefer to sleep the drive away.
The survey was carried out to mark the launch of Volkswagen's
new MPVs; the new Touran and the new Sharan.
But the question parents dread, 'Are we nearly there yet?',
shows no sign of disappearing, with half of all children asking it
within 30 minutes of the journey starting.
Redditch Volkswagen's brand manager Simon Volans, said: "All
parents know how difficult it is to keep children amused when
they're in the car, but this survey shows Belfast's youngsters need
many ways to occupy the time.
"As a car retailer it's important we understand the needs of
children when selling a family car.
"Our survey points out almost 40 per cent of families buy their
new car together. As the family is so integral to our new
MPVs we've even designed the test drive around them."
Every family taking a test drive in the new Touran or Sharan
will be given a pack containing a Hi-Life family dining card worth
£69.95, which gives annual membership on 2 for 1 at a wide
choice of restaurants across the country, a prize draw form to win
a dream family holiday of a lifetime to one of five inspiring
destinations, plus games to keep the kids entertained on the
journey.
Of course a family car journey wouldn't be complete without the
odd disagreement between the children. Almost a third squabbled
over where to sit while a fifth bickered about sharing sweets and
snacks.
Simon concluded: "While our new MPVs can't guarantee children
will never disagree during car journeys, the new Touran's flexible
seating system and the new Sharan's twin sliding rear doors will
help to ensure any arguments are kept to a minimum."
New Touran and New Sharan are available in the latest range of
efficient petrol and diesel engines.
