Bordeaux wine
French wine, once considered the world's finest, has taken a bit
of a battering by the "new kids on the block" over the past few
years.
Wines from Australia, New Zealand and several South American
countries have put the squeeze on France's wine sales as well has
giving its reputation a bit of a knock.
Now a Warwickshire wine expert and an award-winning village pub
plan to show that France is staging something of a comeback -
particularly in its famous Bordeaux region.
An evening of French food and Bordeaux wine tasting is to be
held at The Peacock in Oxhill on Wednesday October 27 with Alastair
MacBrayne of the Warwick-based Dorjes Wine Company providing the
expert guidance.
"It isn't that the French stopped producing good wine, it is
that other countries started matching them on quality while
actually beating them on price.
"But, as always with wines, there are great ones out there at
the right price - it's just knowing where to look," explains
Alastair. "I think the wines I've selected for the evening will
open people's to what France has to offer."
Food for the evening will be provided by The Peacock's
award-winning chef Yvonne Hamlett, who is promising a meal packed
with Gallic flavour and flair.
Tickets for the evening are £29.50. For further
