Nottingham Solicitors Fraser Brown has promoted Kax Chana to
Debt Recovery Manager as business in the sector continues to
grow.
While recent reports suggest that as people have been forced to
tighten their belts the debt recovery business has declined, Kax
says that in her experience the opposite has been true. "There is
no doubt the recession has opened people's eyes to debt and as such
they are less likely to bury their heads in the sand and ignore
their financial problems. But as a result of this both firms and
individuals have become much quicker off the mark when it comes to
starting debt recovery proceedings - and the process is easier than
ever.
"An initial 'letter before action' can cost as little as
£10 to send and can often be an inexpensive way of getting
things moving. In these still uncertain times people are very wary
of letting a situation go on for too long in case the firm or
individual in question is declared bankrupt and debts are written
off.
Previously working within the Dispute Resolution team, Kax's
litigation experience means she will be able to advise both
commercial and private clients on the best way to resolve any legal
disputes as well as help recover any monies owed to them.
She added, "The amount of debt that both companies and
individuals owe is still huge - the average household debt in the
UK is more than £8,000, excluding mortgages. The more
proactive people are about chasing their debts the greater the
likelihood that their cash flow will improve - and often all it
takes is a solicitor's letter demanding action for payment to be
made."
