A team of people from Deloitte in Birmingham have been doing
their bit for the community by giving up their time to help out at
various charitable projects across the West Midlands.
More than 60 volunteers swapped their suits for civvies to take
part in the firm's annual Community Day.
The first project was a reading day at Chandos Primary School,
in Highgate, Birmingham, where the Deloitte volunteers shared their
favourite stories with pupils to promote the benefits of reading.
Book tokens were also presented to the children.
The second activity involved the volunteers getting their hands
dirty by painting and gardening at the Leonard Cheshire Care Home,
in Sutton Coldfield. Some of the residents were also treated to a
game of tenpin bowling at the local bowling alley and took part in
pottery classes.
Thirdly, the Deloitte employees stepped back in time to help
staff at The Black Country Living Museum, in Dudley, with general
site maintenance such as painting, gardening and removing ash from
the Museum's engine room.
Chris Loughran, Midlands practice senior partner at Deloitte,
who took part in the reading day at Chandos Primary School, said:
"The Community Day is a great opportunity for our people to give
something back to the local community while learning new life
skills.
"As well as being of benefit to the organisations we help, it's
also a valuable experience for our volunteers, working with
different groups and managing people outside their normal office
environment."
The Deloitte Community Day is a national initiative, which has
been running since 2005, and forms part of the firm's Community
Investment Programme.
Around 2,800 volunteers from Deloitte across the UK took part in
the Community Day this year.
