Over thirty students with disabilities from schools across the Midlands experienced the joys of fishing as an activity for relaxation and fun at Cob House recently.

The fun fishing activity day has been devised in collaboration with the Angling Development Board and Cob House, the recently launched fishery and outdoor activity centre located in picturesque Wichenford, near Worcester.

Schools participating in the event included students from Round Oak School and Support Service, Warwick and Westcroft Special School, Wolverhampton.

The eager students will arrive in the morning and enjoy a hearty breakfast of bacon sandwiches and will then receive expert one-to-one tuition from experienced licensed anglers, arranged by the Angling Development Board.

Richard Hadley who works for the Angling Development Board, West Midlands is really excited about the project as his organisation aims to develop and promote angling within the region, particularly as an all inclusive activity.

He says: "Angling as a hobby and sporting activity has so much to offer these young people, who really enjoy being out in the fresh air and participating in a competitive sport that does not prohibit them.

"Cob House has excellent disabled facilities and offers a really inclusive experience to children and young people who may have either physical disabilities or other special educational needs."

Helen Taylor, Cob House's proprietor is also delighted that the venue can comfortably accommodate children and adults that may suffer from a range of mobility problems. "I think angling is a very stimulating and enjoyable pastime. It is so wonderful that these young people can participate in a competitive sport that is both fun and therapeutic.

"I am hoping that more children will come along and see the range of outdoor activities that they can participate in such as archery and pond dipping for example with Alpacas and Reindeer soon to be arriving. We have the ability and facilities to be able to tailor bespoke educational and activity packages to be enjoyed by children of all ages and abilities:" concludes Mrs Taylor.
