Six staff members from a Derby law firm are set to raise £1,000 for breast cancer research after taking part in a charity bike ride.

Kristin Clark, Fiona Apthorpe, Sue Jennings, Emma Brookes, Ranjit Kaur and Georgina Woolley, all from Robinsons Solicitors, in St James Court, Friar Gate, took part in the Breast Cancer Campaign's annual Pedal It Pink event last Sunday (Oct 17).

The challenge, which saw the women pull on shocking pink tutus, leg warmers and fetching fingerless gloves, consisted of a 26.2 mile sponsored cycle ride around the Regatta Lake at Holme Pierrepoint in Nottingham.

The women-only event attracted around 350 participants, each of whose lives had been touched by breast cancer in some way, whether they had beaten it themselves or were riding in memory of a friend or loved one who, sadly, had not.

Legal secretary Kristin, who rode in memory of a friend who died from breast cancer, said that Pedal It Pink was an extremely enjoyable event that was tinged with emotion.

She said: "We all had a great time. It wasn't easy but we all went at our own pace and finished the course.

"While we were on our way round, we got a really good sense of why other people were doing it. Each of us had a little card which said who we were riding for - that certainly made you realise what the event was all about.

"We all took part hoping to raise £1,000 and thanks to the generosity of friends, family and workmates we are on course to beat it."

Fiona, who is head of Robinsons' Family and Mediation department and a deputy district judge, said: "When Kristin said she was taking part in this ride, I was happy to be roped in.

"I lost my mother to cancer this summer. She had previously been diagnosed with breast cancer and both cancers were connected, so this charity has a personal resonance with me."
