Bonsers, one of the UK's leading building conversation
specialists, has won a major contract to carry out restoration work
at Corngreaves Hall, an historic grade II listed building in the
West Midlands.
The hall, which dates back to 1780, has been empty for some
time. Formerly owned by Sandwell council, the hall is being
sympathetically developed by Worcs-based Gr8 Space.
Bonsers, based in Nottinghamshire, is a firm of skilled
restoration and conservation craftsmen. At Corngreaves Hall,
Bonsers is assisting with exterior restoration, decoration and
joinery.
Richard Hill of Bonsers said: "This is a stunning property, a
really wonderful old house to work on. It is in great need of
restoration and development. The building has fallen into
dilapidation over many years.
"We will be carrying out several phases of work externally - to
the windows and external features. We will also be carrying out
alterations to the main steps and gate pillars.
"The impressive gateway to the hall will need to be completely
overhauled, with much of the detailed render features requiring
careful reconstruction."
The house, which is stone from the ground to the first floor,
has rendered details which will need careful conservation, said
Richard.
Nick Liddell of Gr8 Space said: "We are delighted to be working
with Bonsers on this development. Their skills and expertise in the
area of building conservation is second to none.
"The company's team of experts are highly skilled craftsmen who
are bringing this derelict building back to life. The house has a
beautiful exterior, which we Gr8 Space and Bonsers are bringing
back to its former glory."
Bonsers has three masons and three specialist window repairers
working at Corngreaves Hall.
Built around 1780, the hall was originally home to the Attwood
family, influential local iron masters during the industrial
development of this part of the Black Country.
