celebrate the end of their Global Challenge in which they walked to
the equivalent of Buenos Aires and back
Staff at BHSF in Birmingham have walked to Buenos Aires and back
in a 16-week challenge without leaving the country.
Three teams involving 21 employees from the national supplier of
health and employee benefits took part, using pedometers supplied
by the organisers.
They completed a total of 14,600 miles in a Global Corporate
Challenge (GCC) called Get the World Moving organised on the
internet. The winning BHSF team, Footsore and Weary, finished
600th out of 14,000 teams world-wide with an average daily step
count of 17,676.
The three top walkers from BHSF were Christina Goodall, Julie
Weavin and Dale Washington.
The global winning team was Nestle from Germany, who had an
average step count of over 35,000 and just beat a Cadbury team from
the UK.
The idea of the GCC is to get people fit. And for every entrant
an organisation enrolls, a youngster is recruited to the Global
Children's Challenge in an effort to cut child obesity. Entrants
pay £343 (£49 each) for a team of seven for which they
receive two pedometers and a walking pack.
A new Global Corporate Challenge is being arranged for next
April and details are on www.gettheworldmoving.com
Chief executive Peter Maskell took part in the challenge and
said: "It was great fun and a rewarding corporate challenge that
included team building and getting fit."
