Creative people set out to ‘Amplify’ Leicester at Phoenix Square

Two innovative projects return to Phoenix Square Film and Digital Media Centre this September.

The first is called Amplified Leicester, which began as a city-wide experiment to explore diversity and innovation, to build a network across diverse communities which create, share and develop new ideas, and then use social media like Facebook and Twitter as an 'amplifier'. Initially, it involved only a small group of individuals from across the city, but now the project hopes to spread the word even further afield.

The series kicks off with a talk on 22nd September from Sue Thomas, Professor of New Media at De Montfort University and driving force behind both CreativeCoffee and Amplified Leicester. She will be explaining 'How to be an Amplified Individual'. The talk will be in the ETC suite of Phoenix Square from 7-8pm, participants are encouraged to stay on to discuss what they've heard with a special discount on food in the Screen Lounge Cafe Bar.

Amplified's sister organisation, CreativeCoffee Club, is also back to business in September. This is an established networking event, which meets fortnightly to provide creative people from business, academia and the public sector with a place to meet like-minded individuals. CreativeCoffee Club aims to be the social arm of Amplified Leicester and a place for people to share ideas, get inspired and motivated. The group also meet online through the Twitter hashtag #ccleic, on Facebook and LinkedIn. They also have a blog, where round ups of the sessions are posted and new members introduced.

Sue Thomas, who is the driving force behind both Amplified Leicester and CreativeCoffee Club, said "These are such great projects to be involved with. Leicester has such a positive buzz and we're very excited to be getting people to think about Leicester in a new way."

David Stevens, newly appointed Executive Chairman at Phoenix Square said "It has been our pleasure to host CreativeCoffee Club since opening our doors in November. The Screen Lounge provides just the right atmosphere for this type of informal event.

"We're also proud to have played a part in the development of Amplified Leicester, and look forward to hosting some really interesting debates."
