Coventry University has linked up with the Princess Royal Trust
for Carers to participate in a major charity fashion show at the
Royal Lancaster Hotel in London during London Fashion Week
2010.
One of the UK's leading fashion designers, Alvin Loy has been
mentoring students on Coventry University's fashion course and has
hand-picked some of them to take part in this show which takes
place during one of the biggest dates in the fashion calendar.
The Graduate Fashion Show on Tuesday 21 September takes place
before the main evening fashion show "The Big Reveal" which Alvin
Loy has designed. It will be attended by key people from the
fashion world as well as VIP guests.
Ann Muirhead, the Principal Lecturer in Fashion at Coventry
University said this was an opportunity of a lifetime for the
fashion graduates:
"We staged our own successful end of year fashion show in June
which received wonderful reviews. This show in London, during
London Fashion Week, could be a turning point in the careers of our
graduate designers and get them noticed by the fashion
industry."
Although Coventry University's fashion course is relatively new,
it has already generated a number of graduates who are now working
in the industry.
Ann Muirhead added: "The fashion course is in its fourth
year and demand for places has gone up by 200% since it started.
Most of our graduates from last year have gone on to work in the
industry and are designers for some well-known high street stores.
One student in particular, Kevin Geddes, won a major award in his
second year and is now working with top designer, Richard Nicoll in
London and has just done a major catwalk show with him."
The annual fashion show for the Princess Royal Trust for Carers
generates thousands of pounds for the charity and guests coming to
Coventry University's afternoon fashion show will also be making a
donation to it as well.
The fashion students showing their collections in London
are:
Leila Abdullahli Ali, Nazneen Arshad, Yuen Kei Chan, Naomi
Clark, Natalie Colley, Dawn Edwards, Monika Hajdus, Jennifer
Hawkes, Sundas Hussian, Amanda Jones, Aisha Mahmood, Amy Moreton,
Katherine Neary, Laura Olliver, Maria Pervez, Komal Sagu, Maisie
Troughton and Mariyam Zakaria.
