Wolverhampton Accountant becomes chair of regional body

David Oliver, of Haines Watts Wolverhampton, has been elected as the President of the Staffs, Salop and Wolverhampton Society of Chartered Accountants.

David's appointment will see him representing chartered accountants in Staffordshire, Shropshire and Wolverhampton, communicating their views on economic and financial issues to the local business community, the national Institute of Chartered Accountants and government departments. David will also continue his role as forensic partner at the Wolverhampton office of Haines Watts.

Speaking on his appointment, David said that he was delighted to have been elected and that he expected his members to contribute to the West Midlands revival post-recession.

"Chartered accountants have an important role to play in providing expertise and support to local businesses in these testing times.

"The society also provides ongoing training courses for accountants and actively encourages students from schools and universities to train with local firms to become chartered accountants," he said.

David began his career at Thornton Baker in Coventry (now Grant Thornton) in 1971 where he progressed to senior manager and qualified as a certified accountant in 1976 and as an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ACA) in 1985.

David then joined Haines Watts, becoming a partner in their Wolverhampton office in 1987. He has been a member of the Wolverhampton Society of Chartered Accountants for more than 20 years and was president in 2000/2001.

During his career, David has taken an active interest in the not-for-profit sector, both in a professional capacity and as trustee to a number of local and national charities. He is currently chair of Coventry Cyrenians - a housing charity based in Coventry.

David lives in Codsall, South Staffs with his partner Christine. His personal interests include tennis, golf and photography.
