Staff at Midlands based Oakland International are making ready
for next month's sponsored sky dive in aid of children's charity
Acorns Children's Hospice, already raising an amazing £1,435
of their £10,000 target.
Team Oakland has been busy raising personal and team sponsorship
and gearing up for their 'jump of a lifetime'. Speaking on behalf
of the team, Lisa Lloyd-Smith said: "We all still can't believe we
actually agreed to jump out of a plane, but then again it's for a
great cause and it will certainly give us something to talk about
for years to come."
A specialist in the supply chain arena of warehousing and
logistics, Oakland previously raised £1,000 for the charity
by taking part in a 'It's a Knockout Challenge', with the team
focused on raising the stakes to achieve their sponsorship target
of £10,000 by the 25th September.
Said Lisa: "Oakland International is always supporting community
and fundraising initiatives and encouraging us all to take part,
and this jump will be my second team challenge this year."
With Acorns such an amazing organization, they all jumped at the
chance to take part. Oakland Team members include Keith Davies,
Lisa Lloyd-Smith, Kazik Libront, Yvette Hannon and Ben Ford.
Lucy Shepherd, Acorns Treks and Challenges officer, commented:
"The support of organisations such as Oakland International is
crucial in helping us raise the vital funds needed to provide the
care and support for local life limited children and their
families.
"It costs £4,500 per day to run each of our hospices and
there is no charge to families. We rely on fundraising for over 70%
of our income so commitment such as this is invaluable."
In the region, Acorns Children's Hospice currently cares for
nearly 600 life limited and life threatened children and young
people and 800 families, including those that are bereaved. The
lifeline provided includes short break, emergency and end of life
care, with a community team to support the family 24-hours a day,
seven days a week.
